BTW, auger gearboxes between a 924050 and a 924084 are completely different. A 924050 gearbox is aluminum, like most 24" gearboxes starting from 1979 to the mid 90s. Today I got to try out my "free" Ariens compact 24 for the first time and I cannot know the blower at all as it has some super nice features, but the B&S engine sucks IMO. The engine does not have enough power on high speed and does bog down even with the lowest speed on it. I've removed the housings (3 nuts) that hold each end of the auger shaft to the inside of the blower shell and now the only thing holding the auger in is the shaft from the auger gearbox into the impeller. I need to remove the auger, re-position the housings on either end and re-install it to get the auger shaft back in the correct position ...Ariens Deluxe 28 losing power under load. It was delivered ($89 delivery) with the headlight not working (no voltage at the pigtail coming out of the engine).The Ariens snowblower has a clearing width of up to 30 inches, which is slightly wider than the Toro. It also has an adjustable chute that can be rotated up to 200 degrees, allowing you to direct the snow where you want it to go. Other features of the Ariens snowblower include hand warmers and a headlight for increased visibility.
